Euphoria Star’s Close Call: Filming Series While High Nearly Cost Them Their Role

The drug trouble was not only in the series but also on the set while filming an unexpected hit for HBO over the years “Euphoria”.

In February 2022 the series was renewed for a third season and while waiting for the filming of 3rd season one of the cast of the series shared his experience while filming the series and how drugs affected it.

Dominic Fike who played Elliot, a new “friend” of Rue’s, comes between her and Jules shared in a recent interview with Apple Music, he struggled with substance abuse while filming the series and the producers “had to” use those takes in the show’s final cut.

“I was so f*cked up during a lot of that show. It was really bad. I was reprimanded for it. I almost, you know, got kicked off the show. They were like, ‘Bro, you cannot be doing this.'” Dominic Fike said.

“I was a drug addict and coming on to a show that’s, you know, mainly about drugs, is very difficult, That’s entertainment dude. They give you a bunch of money and they’re like, ‘Yeah, figure it out bud. Sink or swim.'” Fike added.

Costume designer Heidi Bivens shared in an interview with Vogue, “I’ll do everything I can to make the third season of the show successful,”. The series is set to premiere somewhere in 2025.


Update: Dominic Fike Returned for Euphoria Season 3 and Says Fatherhood Changed Him (2026)

Updated July 2026. Dominic Fike, who plays Elliot on Euphoria, reprised his role for the show’s long-delayed third season, which premiered April 12, 2026 on HBO after filming through early 2025. Fike has since spoken openly about how becoming a father to his son, Rocket, reshaped his priorities and pushed him toward sobriety, a notable shift from the substance-abuse struggles he described experiencing during earlier seasons. He also released a new mixtape, Rocket, in July 2025 and kicked off a North American tour in August 2026. Euphoria itself has continued to face scrutiny over its production challenges, though the show’s cast has largely stayed intact for its return.
