James Gunn has confirmed that Superman: Legacy movie production will begin in 2025. He responded to a report about the movie’s plot summary and start date on the social media platform Threads.
According to the reports of Superherohype, the plot summary reads: Superman, who works as a young journalist in a city called Metropolis, tries to find a balance between his alien background from Krypton and his life as a regular human named Clark Kent.
Gunn said,
“Not sure where this logline came from. I didn’t write it. It has elements of truth (obviously based on things I’ve said in the past). But I wouldn’t describe the plot this way, [and] I wouldn’t call Clark a cub reporter. He’s a thirty-year-old full-on reporter.”

However, he further confirmed that DC’s Superman: Legacy would start filming in the month of March 2024 and said
“I’m grateful every day our production team worked their asses off to keep things going through the strikes,” Gunn continued. “Forces impelled us to stop many times — [and] if we had, we’d never make July 2025.”

Superman: Legacy Update (2026)
Updated August 2026. The film James Gunn confirmed would begin filming in 2025, ultimately released simply as Superman in July 2025, and it became a major win for the rebooted DC Universe, grossing $618.7 million worldwide and passing $300 million domestically on its way to becoming the highest-grossing superhero movie of 2025. David Corenswet starred as the Man of Steel, with production shooting scenes as far afield as Svalbard, Norway. Gunn has said a follow-up won’t be a direct sequel but rather the next chapter in an ongoing “Superman Saga,” and he has confirmed the treatment is already finished, with Warner Bros. reportedly fast-tracking the next installment given the first film’s box-office performance.
