Nicole Kidman proved she is truly one of Hollywood’s most dedicated stars. The 58-year-old actress showed up on the set of Apple TV+’s new series Margo’s Got Money Troubles while battling a severe flu — and still delivered every single shot her character needed before heading straight to the hospital.
Kidman plays Lace, a former pro wrestler turned lawyer, in the highly anticipated series. Her first day of filming was also her first appearance in the show. The scene was a big one — a fan convention set piece filled with hundreds of extras, where her character reunites with an old wrestling friend named Jinx, played by Nick Offerman.
Speaking to PEOPLE, Offerman shared what really happened behind the scenes that day. Early in the morning, the entire crew received word that Kidman had come down with the flu and might not be able to make it to set. “We might not get Nicole today,” Offerman recalled, describing how everyone felt the pressure since the whole production had been built around that one day.
Then, around 11:00 a.m., the news changed — Kidman was on her way.
“She was so pale, shaken. She just had the flu really so bad,” Offerman, 55, told PEOPLE. But despite feeling terribly ill, Kidman pushed through every single shot. Once filming wrapped for the day, she was taken directly to the hospital to receive an IV drip.
Offerman was clearly moved by what he witnessed. “I already admired you so much, but this is how you get to be Nicole Kidman,” he said, calling her performance that day “astonishing” and “so generous.”
Kidman is not only starring in the show — she is also an executive producer on the series. She previously shared with PEOPLE that she underwent wrestling training before filming began and even admitted she’d love to continue. “When I got in the ring, I just went, ‘Okay, let’s go,'” she said at the show’s New York City premiere on April 8.
Margo’s Got Money Troubles is based on Rufi Thorpe’s bestselling 2024 novel. The series stars Elle Fanning as Margo, a college dropout juggling a newborn baby and a growing pile of bills. Michelle Pfeiffer plays her mom, Shyanne, while Offerman plays her dad. The cast also includes Marcia Gay Harden, Greg Kinnear, Michael Angarano, Rico Nasty, and Lindsey Normington. The show was created by David E. Kelley, who is Pfeiffer’s husband.
