Breeder is a 2026 dark comedy horror thriller movie from Independent Film Company and Shudder. It is written, edited, and directed by Alex Goyette, in his first feature.
The main cast includes Daniel Doheny, Dot-Marie Jones, Maddie Phillips, Tanaya Beatty and Paige McGarvin. The movie was filmed in British Columbia, Canada, mainly in Vancouver.
Russell is a broke college student who has spent years working on a project to save endangered bees. When a poodle breeder named Patti offers to fund his research, he drives out to her remote ranch for dinner. As he soon learns, there is a catch. The story mixes dread with comedy that is as dark as it gets.
Breeder premiered at the Tribeca Festival in June 2026 and opens in US theaters on October 28, 2026. It runs 97 minutes and is rated R.

📍Vancouver, British Columbia
Vancouver is the main base for the shoot. Every report names it as the production city. We could not confirm which streets or studios were used, so we are not naming any. Our Canada page lists other films shot across the country.
📍Maple Ridge, British Columbia
IMDb lists Maple Ridge as the filming city. It sits east of Vancouver and fits the story, which is set at a remote ranch. We could not confirm which property or scenes were shot there, so please treat Maple Ridge as reported only.
Most of the story happens at one ranch, and one review calls it the Kolb ranch. That is the name in the story, and we could not confirm the real property behind it. We also could not find any other exact venue.
Visiting: A ranch is most likely private property, so please do not visit or enter any land without permission.
Breeder Behind the Scenes
To make your search for Breeder filming even more interesting, here is what the director has shared so far. Goyette told Rue Morgue that society has become “a bit too comfortable playing God.” His script won the Grand Prize at the 2023 Cinequest Screenwriting Competition.
Fun fact: the film began as a project at the 2019 Tribeca Creators Market, and Goyette is a former YouTube creator. If you like Shudder horror from first-time directors, our guide to In a Violent Nature is a good next read, and Carrie is another horror shot in British Columbia.
We will add more cast and crew Instagram posts and set photos here as soon as they are shared.
Is There Any Trailer Available for Breeder?
