Waypoint and Neon Partner on Indie Films Over $10 Million

Last updated

Waypoint Entertainment is the production company in The Favourite. The production company owned by Ken Kao has just announced a new partnership with the distribution company, Neon.

The co-founder of Waypoint said, “I am excited to announce our strategic alliance with NEON to expand our slate,”

This partnership will involve co-financing and producing a series of films together. The agreement is described as a “strategic financial partnership” that is not exclusive.

To date, there are no specific projects announced; Kao has stated that the films will have budgets of $10 million or more, which are often overlooked by traditional studios and streaming services.

Kao stated, “Our joint venture will focus on the underserved market of larger independent films, specifically in the $10M+ range that often get overlooked by studios and streamers.”

“This collaboration echoes our mutual ethos of championing films with innovative storytelling and ensuring they resonate deeply with hungry audiences.”

The distributing company, Neon, has launched a multinational sales division which will be handled by Waypoint titles.

The Founder and CEO of Neon stated, “Ken Kao and the Waypoint team have long demonstrated their commitment and unique ability to create bold, beautiful cinema,”

He continued by saying, “We’re beyond thrilled to join forces and continue to ramp up Neon’s production of films from the most revelatory, groundbreaking auteurs around the globe.”

Neon & Waypoint Entertainment Update (2026)

Updated August 2026. The Neon–Waypoint Entertainment partnership teased in this post has grown considerably since its March 2024 announcement. Formed around Ken Kao’s Waypoint (the company behind The Favourite and The Nice Guys) to fund films in the $10 million-plus range, the deal expanded in October 2025 into a multi-picture slate financing agreement covering titles including Sentimental Value, No Other Choice, Sirât, Arco and The Secret Agent, with Waypoint’s genre label Cweature Features contributing Keeper and Shelby Oaks. The two companies also collaborated on Osgood Perkins’ horror hit Longlegs, reinforcing Neon’s position as one of the most prolific specialty distributors in independent film.
