Top Gear has been pushed back filming of the show as presenter Freddie Flintoff was taken to hospital with facial injuries and broken ribs after getting injured at the Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey while filming the motor show and Top Gear is not coming back any time soon.
“Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning – with crew medics attending the scene immediately and he has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course.” a spokesperson said the news.
According to The Sun “Cast and crew are still reeling from the shocking accident and there is concern about the future of the show,”. “His injuries were reported as not life-threatening”.
The sportsman’s son Corey who is 16 years old revealed that they were shocked by the incident and Corey told MailOnline: ‘He’s OK. I’m not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.

Top Gear Update (2026)
Updated July 2026. Top Gear UK has remained off the air since this story, with the show shelved following Freddie Flintoff’s serious crash while filming in December 2022. The BBC has never officially cancelled the format outright, and reports since indicate BBC Studios has begun early work on a possible reboot, with producers said to be searching for a new hosting lineup to replace Flintoff, Paddy McGuinness, and Chris Harris. No premiere date or presenter lineup has been confirmed as of mid-2026. The brand remains valuable to the BBC, which is reportedly reluctant to let the motoring franchise disappear permanently given the gap it’s left in its schedule.
