How ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Movie Sneaked Into Plymouth Without Anyone Noticing

Prime Video’s hit romance series is making its jump to the big screen, and the production team pulled off something remarkably clever — they quietly moved into an entire New England town without most people even realizing it.

The Summer I Turned Pretty feature film has been filming in Plymouth, Massachusetts, operating under a completely different name to avoid drawing attention. According to the Plymouth Independent, official town permits list the shoot under the working title “Keeping Score” — a deliberate decoy. The production has reportedly been rotating through multiple fake titles throughout its shoot, including “Blue Christmas” and “The Exactuals,” all designed to keep fan crowds away and let filming run smoothly.

Director and series creator Jenny Han has publicly addressed the issue, urging fans to respect the production’s space and warning that large gatherings force the crew to halt shooting entirely and clear the area before work can resume. So if you spotted “Keeping Score” signage anywhere in downtown Plymouth, you were almost certainly standing outside a Summer I Turned Pretty set without knowing it.

What Shut Down Downtown Plymouth

Filming ran from approximately noon to 11 p.m. across several streets in Plymouth’s historic district, including Main Street, Court Street, Shirley Square, and Leyden Street, with camera setups placed outside the Plymouth Center for the Arts, per assistant town manager Lauren Lind.

Parking restrictions were enforced throughout the day on portions of Court Street, Main Street, North Street, Brewster Street, and Middle Street. Leyden Street closed to through traffic between approximately 8 and 11 p.m., with residents redirected via Water Street. Pedestrians retained access to local businesses and residences, though brief delays during active shots were possible.

Belly and Conrad’s Story Gets Its Final Chapter

The film serves as the conclusion to one of Prime Video’s biggest streaming success stories. Based on Jenny Han’s bestselling YA trilogy, The Summer I Turned Pretty ran for three seasons, premiering in 2022 before wrapping its series finale in fall 2025. Amazon MGM greenlit the movie at the show’s finale celebration, with Han both directing and co-writing a story that picks up directly where the series ended.

Lola Tung returns as Belly Conklin, alongside Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher. Han has described the project as “this final chapter” — a conclusion she felt only a feature film could properly deliver.

Principal photography began on April 27 in Wilmington, North Carolina, with the production since moving between North Carolina and Massachusetts. Filming is expected to wrap by the end of June 2026. A release date has not yet been confirmed, with Han indicating fans will be waiting until after 2026 to see the finished film.

Why Plymouth Was the Perfect Hide-Out

For Plymouth, landing this production is the latest sign of the town’s growing appeal as a filming destination. Its colonial architecture, walkable downtown streets, harbor views, and unmistakably authentic New England character make it a natural fit for productions seeking real coastal backdrops. Backed by Massachusetts’ film tax incentives, the region has steadily attracted major studio films and streaming series — and The Summer I Turned Pretty is now its most high-profile arrival yet.
