The Monkey is on its way!!! The production for the highly anticipated film is around the corner as it has covered two stages of production, and now all that’s left is post-production.
On 28 March, Thursday, reports came that the filming of the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Monkey has wrapped filming and is now going on the post-production stage.
Let’s tell you that the filming began in Vancouver on February 5, 2024, and wrapped up in less than two months in the end of March.
The supernatural film was announced in May of 2023, and then they had completed two stages of production.
Osgood Perkins, known for his work in The Blackcoat’s Daughter, I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, and Legally Blonde, is leading this film.
It is the on screen adaption of the 1980 short story which is penned by Stephen King and Oz Perkins wrote the screenplay.
The film is being produced by James Wan who talked about the author by saying, “Stephen King is the godfather of the horror genre.”
The producer added, “He had a huge influence on me as a child and throughout my career and it’s always been a dream to help bring one of his stories to life.”
He continued, “The Monkey is a personal favorite, with its simple, iconic, and incredibly marketable conceit. And I can’t imagine anyone better than a visionary and lifelong genre fan like Osgood to bring this to life.”
The cast for the horror film includes Theo James, Elijah Wood, Laura Mennell, Tatiana Maslany, Sarah Levy, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, and more.

The Monkey Update (2026)
Updated August 2026. Osgood Perkins’ Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, starring Theo James, became the highest-grossing horror release of early 2025, pulling in $68.9 million worldwide against a modest $10 million budget. Despite the strong returns, a full franchise looks unlikely given the film’s relatively modest scale compared to bigger horror hits, and there’s been no public push from King, Perkins, or the cast for a sequel. The film’s post-credits scene instead teased Perkins’ next project, the horror film Keeper, suggesting the director is moving on to new original material rather than revisiting the cursed wind-up toy.
