The film is based on the strict teacher Paul Hanham (Paul Giamatti), who is not liked by everyone. Nobody likes teacher Paul’s attitude, neither any student, nor his fellow faculty, and not even the headmaster. His ostentatiousness and harshness are repulsive to all.
Paul is kept at school in 1970 to look after students who are unable to go home for the Christmas holidays because he too has no family.
