The Cycle is a 2026 supernatural horror mystery movie from Shudder, made by BondIt Media Capital and Tea Shop Productions. It is directed by Jordan Downey, who wrote it with Kevin Stewart. Stewart is also the cinematographer, and Downey edited it too.

The Astorian reports that the cast and crew worked on the film in the fall of 2024. Jordan Downey said he and Stewart drove the whole Oregon coast in January 2024, looking for the right town. The Astoria Visitor Center told Oregon Coast Beach Connection in a November 17, 2024, article that the crew had been in town since September and had a couple of weeks left. We could not find an official wrap date, so please treat the end of filming as reported.
Producer Michael Downey listed the places they had filmed in that article. We have a heading below for each one that we could match to a scene or a source.
📍Hughes-Ransom Mortuary, 12th and Exchange Streets, Astoria

This is the best documented scene. Michael Downey says the crew asked the local fire and police departments to close 12th and Exchange Streets and staged a fake fire at the funeral home. It looked so real that Astoria Mayor Sean Fitzpatrick drove up to check, and he did not recognise the “officer” from the police car.
Visiting: Since it is a working funeral home, please do not visit or disturb it. The street corner is public, but please be respectful.
📍Custard King, Astoria
Oregon Coast Beach Connection shows Custard King as one of the locations, and Downey named it in his list. We could not confirm which scene it appears in.
Visiting: It is a public business, so please check opening hours before you go.
📍Suomi Hall, Astoria
Suomi Hall is on Downey’s list. We could not confirm which scene was filmed there.
Visiting: Since it is a private venue, please check before visiting.
📍Old Roby’s Department Store, Astoria
Downey named the old Roby’s department store as a location. We could not confirm which scene it appears in.
Visiting: The building is private, so please check before visiting.
📍AMCCO, Astoria

AMCCO is on Downey’s list. We could not confirm which scenes were shot there, or whether the public can visit.
Visiting: Please check before visiting.
📍Clatsop Community College, Astoria

Downey says the crew used both Clatsop Community College sites. We could not confirm which scenes were filmed there.
Visiting: These are working college sites, so please check access before you go.
📍The Old County Jail, Astoria
The old Clatsop County Jail is also on Downey’s list. We could not confirm which scene was shot there.
Visiting: Please check opening hours before you go.
📍Clatskanie, Oregon

Downey said the crew filmed “all the way to Clatskanie”, a small town upriver from Astoria. We could not confirm the exact spots.
📍Other Areas Around Astoria
The film’s setting is a small supernatural town, and the filmmakers wanted a “big scary house” for a key location. They put out a call for an older, secluded house in 2024. We could not confirm which house was used, and we will update this guide as soon as we can. Astoria is also known for The Goonies, The Ring Two and Short Circuit. Our Oregon page lists more films shot in the state, and our Halloween filming locations guide covers more spooky places to visit.
The Cycle Behind the Scenes
To make your search for The Cycle filming even more interesting, here is how the shoot came together. Michael Downey said the town won them over with its “strong visual identity”, and Jordan Downey said the crew felt more welcome there than on any other production. The film premiered in Astoria at the Liberty Theatre on October 24, 2026. It was free to attend, and the donations went to the Oregon Film Museum’s expansion.
Fun fact: Stephen King praised the film on X on September 1, calling it “a terrific fright flick”. The Downey brothers are from Granville, Ohio, and they have worked together since their 2008 horror comedy ThanksKilling. If you like Shudder horror, see our guide to In a Violent Nature. We will add more cast and crew Instagram posts and set photos here as soon as they are shared.
