Sydney Sweeney is speaking her truth — and it’s a lot more technical than most people think. The Euphoria actress recently sat down with Grazia magazine to talk about what it actually feels like to film nude and intimate scenes on screen. And according to her, it is far from glamorous.
Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard on the hit HBO Max drama, said that when she sees those scenes after filming, she feels completely disconnected from them. Speaking to Grazia, she explained that when fans tag her in images from Euphoria or her film The Voyeurs, it doesn’t feel personal to her at all.
“I’m so disconnected from it,” she said. “When I get tagged in Cassie’s or Pippa’s nudes, it feels like me looking at their nudes, not Sydney’s nudes.”
In other words — it’s all part of the character work.
Sweeney has been open before about how difficult it has been for some people to separate her from the roles she plays. She has spoken previously about receiving online hate because fans see her as Cassie, rather than as the real person she is — someone who has also played boxing legend Christy Martin, starred in romantic comedies, and produced many of her own projects.

What Really Happens on a Filming Set
The actress also pushed back against the idea that intimate scenes are exciting or romantic. She was very clear — they are not.
“When you film one of these scenes, it is so technical and so not romantic,” Sweeney said. “There are people staring at you, there’s pads between you, there’s nipple covers and weird sticker thongs all up in your butt.”
On professional sets, intimacy coordinators are present to guide actors through every movement. There are also camera crews, lighting teams, and directors all in the room at the same time. Nothing about it is private or spontaneous.
Sweeney also pointed out what she believes is a double standard in Hollywood — one that treats women differently than men when it comes to nudity in films and television. She has said that because she agreed to film nude scenes to portray Cassie, she has had a harder time moving past that image in the industry.
It is a challenge many actresses quietly face, but few speak about as directly as Sweeney does.
A Bigger Conversation in Hollywood
Sydney Sweeney’s comments are part of a growing conversation about how intimate scenes are handled in the entertainment industry. With more productions now hiring intimacy coordinators and setting clear boundaries on set, the process has become more structured — but it is still not easy for the actors involved.
Her honesty gives fans a rare, unfiltered look at what goes on behind the camera — and why skilled actors like Sweeney are able to keep their real lives completely separate from the characters they bring to life on screen.
