Sydney Sweeney Is Living Her Best Life in Australia While Filming Netflix’s Gundam — and Her Photos Prove It

Sydney Sweeney is back in Australia — and judging by everything she’s been sharing online, the experience of filming Netflix’s live-action Gundam movie there looks about as good as a summer can get.

The actress, who first fell in love with Australia while shooting Anyone But You there, returned to the country in May for the Gundam production, which has been filming in the Queensland area since late April, according to Yahoo. Perth Now has confirmed she has continued filming in the region throughout the summer.

The Photo Dump That Stopped Everyone

Sweeney recently shared what she called her “little Aussie dump” — a collection of summer moments that quickly captured attention online.

The images included bikini days on the beach, an indulgent picnic spread loaded with pizza and pasta, and a cheeky recreation of the “I’m flying” scene from Titanic — a nod that carries extra layers given that the original Anyone But You already incorporated a reference to the same moment. The recreation was shared alongside her boyfriend Scooter Braun, whom she has been dating since shortly after they were both seen at Jeff Bezos’ wedding in 2025.

What We Know About the Gundam Movie

Beyond the lifestyle content, actual production details on Netflix’s Gundam have been relatively scarce. Sweeney first gave followers a glimpse of her new Australian setting — including a view of the Sydney Opera House — in early May, and the recent photo dump represents one of the most substantial updates fans have received in weeks.

The film, which also stars Noah Centineo, is based on the iconic Japanese mecha anime franchise and is being developed as a major Netflix original feature. Given the massive global following the Gundam franchise commands, anticipation for the live-action adaptation has been building steadily since the project was first announced.

Back and Forth

Sweeney was spotted stateside last month, attending multiple NBA Finals games in New York and San Antonio alongside Braun — though she attracted considerably less attention than fellow actor Timothée Chalamet, who celebrated the Knicks’ championship win with considerable enthusiasm. Whether she has been traveling between Australia and the US throughout the shoot or whether some of the recent photos are from earlier in the summer remains unclear, though reports confirm filming in Queensland has been ongoing.

With production still underway and a release date yet to be confirmed, Sweeney’s Australian dispatches remain the most vivid window into what life on the Gundam set actually looks like — and from what she’s sharing, it looks like a very good place to spend a summer.
