The Fall Guy star revealed that working on the film sometimes made him feel like he was “going a little crazy.” The reason? He had to film many scenes completely alone.

Speaking about the experience during an interview with USA Today, Ryan Gosling shared that acting without other actors around him was both exciting and challenging.
He explained that most of the time, he was performing scenes inside a spaceship set with no one else physically present. Instead of talking to real co-stars, he often had to imagine conversations and react to things that would be added later using visual effects.
Gosling joked that this made him feel like he was “losing it a little,” because actors usually depend on other people’s reactions to bring scenes to life. Without that connection, he had to rely heavily on his imagination.
Despite the challenge, the actor also said it was a fun and creative experience. He described the project as something very special and different from anything he has done before.
The film is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who are known for their creative storytelling style. Their direction helped keep the set environment lively, even when Gosling was filming solo scenes.

Ryan Gosling has since opened up about what it took to shoot Project Hail Mary, revealing he spent close to 100 days working largely alone on set as the film’s stranded-astronaut lead. Rather than finding the isolation draining, Gosling said he enjoyed the freedom to experiment with each scene, and at one point joked he had to “make a friend out of a mop” to have someone to talk to between takes. Filmmakers reportedly stayed in his ear remotely to help him feel less alone during the long solo stretches. The sci-fi adaptation, based on Andy Weir’s novel, is built almost entirely around his character’s one-man survival mission.
