Filming has officially wrapped on Werwulf, the upcoming werewolf horror movie from acclaimed director Robert Eggers. The film finished shooting in England after a long 82-day schedule, marking an important milestone for one of the most talked-about horror films in development.
The movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, and Willem Dafoe in leading roles. The story is set in 13th-century England and is described as a dark gothic horror epic with time-period-accurate dialogue, something Eggers is well known for.
After filming ended, actor Ralph Ineson shared a photo from the wrap party on X, confirming that production was complete. Soon after, more images appeared showing Eggers and Taylor-Johnson celebrating with the cast and crew, giving fans a small behind-the-scenes look at the end of the shoot.
Werwulf is co-written by Eggers and Sjón, continuing their creative partnership. Eggers, who previously directed The Witch and Nosferatu, has said this is the darkest script he has ever written. The film is said to focus heavily on historical accuracy, including authentic language, costumes, and settings.
During filming, some set photos leaked from Bourne Wood near Farnham, a popular filming location in England. The images showed Dafoe, Ineson, and 28 Years Later Star Taylor-Johnson wearing muddy medieval costumes, riding horses, and holding weapons like spears. The rough and gritty look of the set matched the film’s grim tone.
The movie was shot on 35mm film using a 1.37:1 Academy ratio, giving it a tight and claustrophobic visual style, similar to Eggers’ earlier work The Lighthouse. This format is expected to add to the film’s intense and haunting atmosphere.
The film is produced by Working Title Films, with Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner producing alongside Eggers and Sjón. Chris and Eleanor Columbus serve as executive producers.
Werwulf is scheduled to release in North American theaters on December 25, 2026, through Focus Features. More details are expected to be revealed as post-production moves forward.
