Landman Star Paulina Chávez Opens Up About a Difficult Scene Filmed in Season 2

Actress Paulina Chávez has shared an honest and emotional story about filming one of the most difficult scenes in Landman Season 2. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chávez spoke about how she prepared herself mentally and emotionally while shooting a violent and intense moment in the series.

Paulina Chávez plays Ariana, a young widow who works at a café and is trying to rebuild her life. In the second season, her character faces a terrifying attack that becomes a major turning point in the story. The scene appears in the episode just before the season finale and has serious consequences for the characters involved.

Alexander and Very Bad Road Trip star actress explained that when she first read the script, she was deeply shaken. She said she cried after reading it because the situation shown in the scene is something many people fear in real life. Chávez shared that she has always been a very emotional and empathetic actor, which helps her connect to characters — but it also makes heavy scenes harder to perform.

Before filming, Paulina Chávez spoke with the show’s creator Taylor Sheridan, who reassured her that nothing would be filmed unless she felt safe and comfortable. He explained that the scene would be carefully planned, filmed in parts, and supported by a professional stunt team and an intimacy coordinator. This helped Chávez feel protected on set.

The scene was filmed at night and broken into small sections. Stunt doubles were used for the most dangerous moments, especially when action took place on concrete. Even with these safety steps, Chávez admitted that the first take was extremely hard. She said the body sometimes reacts as if something is real, even when acting, and she needed time between takes to calm herself.

Chávez also praised her co-stars, especially Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper, Ariana’s partner. She said he supported her throughout the night and made sure she was okay after each take. The actor playing the attacker also checked in with her constantly and apologized before each shot, showing respect and care.

Despite how hard the scene was, Chávez believes it shows Ariana’s strength and courage. She said the moment does not break her character — instead, it proves that Ariana is a fighter who keeps going no matter what.

Landman Season 2 is currently streaming on Paramount+, with the finale arriving soon. Chávez said she is proud of the work and grateful to be part of a show that treats serious topics with care, respect, and honesty.

Her words highlight how acting is not just performance, but also emotional work — and how strong support on set can make even the hardest scenes possible to tell.
