Fans of The Rookie are in for a big surprise in Season 8, as the popular show travels outside the United States for the first time ever. Actor Nathan Fillion recently shared that filming the season 8 premiere in Prague felt more like a movie than a TV show.
In an exclusive interview with People, Fillion and his co-star Jenna Dewan opened up about their experience shooting the episode in Europe. The two play John Nolan and Bailey Nune, a married couple on the show.
According to Fillion, stepping into Prague was magical. He said walking through the city’s beautiful streets, rivers, and historic squares made him feel like he was in a James Bond-style action film. For a change, he was not wearing his police uniform. Instead, he was dressed in a sharp suit, which made him feel, in his own words, “very fancy.”
Jenna Dewan agreed and said filming there felt special and exciting. She explained that Prague looks like a place from another time, which added a unique feeling to the scenes. She described the experience as being inside an action movie, full of energy and suspense.
In the story, Nolan and Bailey travel to Europe for what they call their “second honeymoon.” Their first honeymoon did not go as planned, as it involved crime and danger. This time, they hoped for romance and peace. However, Dewan teased that things do not stay calm for long. There is plenty of action, danger, and bonding moments, making their trip unforgettable.
The actors also talked about how The Rookie mixes different tones. Dewan said the show balances strong action, suspense, humor, and romance, which keeps fans entertained. Both actors summed up the new season in three words: teamwork, friction, and opportunity.
When they were not filming, the cast enjoyed exploring Prague. Fillion even stayed longer to enjoy the city, while Dewan took time to visit castles, go on tours, and learn about history. She shared that she loved walking around and truly living in the moment.
The Rookie Season 8 premieres on January 6 on ABC, with streaming available the next day on Hulu. With its European setting and movie-like feel, the new season promises to be bigger, bolder, and more exciting than ever.
