HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is back in Northern Ireland — and the location it has returned to is one that fans of the series will recognize immediately.
Production on the second half of Season 2 has resumed at Myra Castle in County Down, situated on the shores of Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland, according to Wiki of Thrones, citing confirmed reports from multiple reliable Irish sources tracking the production. Filming is scheduled to take place between July 20 and August 14, 2026.

A Return to Familiar Ground
Myra Castle is not new territory for this production. The location served as a significant filming site during Season 1, where it stood in for sections of Ashford and Flea Bottom — two of the more visually distinct settings in the show’s world. Its return for Season 2 suggests the production is deliberately revisiting established sets and architectural backdrops as the story continues to grow.
Strangford Lough and its surrounding landscapes have been favorites of Game of Thrones universe productions for years, consistently offering the kind of sweeping, medieval atmosphere that gives the Westeros setting its distinctive visual character.
Where the Production Is Coming From
The Northern Ireland shoot follows the conclusion of filming at La Forteleza in Gran Canaria, Spain — a location that provided a very different visual palette for the earlier portion of the Season 2 shoot. With Gran Canaria wrapped, the production has now shifted its focus back to the UK, bringing the two distinct visual environments of the season together.
Season 2 is expected to continue the journey of Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey, and his young squire Egg, played by Dexter Sol Ansell, as the two embark on new adventures across the world of Westeros.

Showrunner Ira Parker confirmed in July 2026 that the season would “absolutely” arrive in the first half of 2027, with most predictions pointing to a spring premiere between March and June. New cast members Lucy Boynton, Babou Ceesay and Peter Mullan join the returning ensemble.
