Kaley Cuoco is opening up about the emotional journey behind filming ‘Vanished’, the new mystery drama coming to MGM+, and why shooting the series in France was not an easy yes for her in the beginning.
The four-part thriller, set to premiere on February 1, stars Kaley Cuoco as Alice Monroe, an archaeologist whose life turns upside down when her boyfriend suddenly disappears during a train trip. The story quickly becomes dangerous as she searches for answers across southern France, with much of the action filmed in and around Marseille.
While filming in France may sound like a dream job, Role Play star Cuoco revealed that it was actually a tough decision at first. In an interview with TV Insider, the actress shared that she was hesitant to travel overseas because it meant leaving her young daughter behind.
At the time, Kaley Cuoco was the mother of a 2-year-old daughter, Mathilda, and the idea of being far away was overwhelming. She explained that when producers talked about shooting on location in Marseille, she wondered if it was really necessary. It was the first major career choice she had to make after becoming a mother, and it weighed heavily on her.
The decision became easier thanks to support from her fiancé, Tom Pelphrey. Kaley Cuoco shared that he encouraged her to take the opportunity and stepped in to manage things at home. His support allowed her to fully focus on the role and embrace the experience.
Once on set, Cuoco says everything changed. She became deeply connected to the people, the environment, and the work. Looking back, she now calls it a special memory and admits it may be an experience she never gets again.
Kaley Cuoco also praised how important the location became to the final series. After seeing the completed episodes, she realized that France was not just a backdrop but felt like another character in the story. She noted that some scenes were so beautiful they almost looked unreal, adding a powerful visual layer to the mystery.
‘Vanished’ is a limited series with four episodes, and Kaley Cuoco says the stunning French locations play a major role in building suspense and emotion. With its mix of mystery, danger, and breathtaking scenery, the show promises an intense ride for viewers.
The series ‘Vanished’ premieres February 1 on MGM+, giving fans a closer look at a project that challenged Cuoco personally and creatively—and ultimately became one of her most meaningful filming experiences yet.
