The world of John Wick is growing bigger again. A new John Wick spinoff movie focused on the fan-favorite blind assassin Caine is now getting ready to start filming very soon. The exciting part? Donnie Yen will not only return as Caine but will also direct the film himself.
This new project, backed by Lionsgate, is expected to begin production next month, making it one of the most awaited action films in development right now.
The story will continue after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023). In that film, Caine finally gained his freedom from the powerful group known as the High Table. Now, this spinoff will explore what happens next in his life, giving fans a deeper look at his journey.
The screenplay is written by Mattson Tomlin, who is also working on The Batman Part II, along with Michael McGrale. Their combined writing is expected to bring a strong and emotional story along with intense action.
Fans will also be happy to know that Rina Sawayama is set to return as Akira, continuing her storyline alongside Caine.
The film is being produced by Thunder Road, the same team behind the earlier John Wick films. Producers include Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski, who has directed previous movies in the franchise. Keanu Reeves is also involved as a producer, keeping the connection to the original series strong.
Speaking about the project in a statement shared via Deadline, Donnie Yen explained why this character means so much to him. He said Caine is a mix of love, sacrifice, and responsibility, which makes him different from typical action heroes.
Yen also shared his big vision for the film. He wants to create one of the best martial arts action movies ever made, while still keeping the emotional depth of the John Wick universe. As both actor and director, he plans to bring a fresh style and powerful storytelling to the screen.
Meanwhile, Adam Fogelson, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said that fans were very interested in Caine after the last film. That made this spinoff a natural next step for the franchise.
With filming starting soon and a strong creative team behind it, this new John Wick spinoff promises high-level action, emotional storytelling, and a brand-new chapter in the hit franchise.
Fans now just have to wait as Caine’s story officially moves into production.
