John Stamos is open about his excessive drinking in the past, In a talk he confesses about his extreme drinking habit.
He said that when he was drunk, he didn’t even know where he was and what he did. He mentions that he forgot that he ever stepped onto the set of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2.

John Stamos’s confessions about past
John Stamos who is now sober, talks about his 2015 incident, when he gets arrested for drinking and driving. He spoke openly about the difficulties of his past life due to the consumption of alcohol.
He said “I was just with Rita Wilson and Nia (Vardalos) in Greece and I realized, I forgot that the next day (after the arrest) they said, ‘Oh, you got to go to Toronto, you’re in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2,” Stamos recalled. “I’m like, ‘What? I don’t remember being on that set.”
He continues “As soon as I came back from Toronto, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, my sisters were there and my agents and everybody was like, ‘Okay! It’s time,'” he said. “It wasn’t even an intervention, it was like, ‘We packed your bags, you’re going.”
“My first marriage was shattering to me. I was shattered for way too long, too,” he previously told People magazine. “I mean, a year, OK, good. But it went on for years and years.”

“In my mind back then, she was the devil, and I just hated her,” he told People. “I couldn’t believe how much I hated her, and it ruined my life.”
“Looking back, and I talk about it (in the book) because it’s one of the steps in AA where the fourth step is you lay out all your grievances, everything that people did to you. I go like, ‘None.”
Now John Stamos is living a peaceful and happy life, he gets married to Caitlin McHugh, and they have a son named Billy. He happily lived with his loving family.

Updated August 2026. John Stamos has stayed busy on screen since this interview. He took on a villainous role in the horror comedy “Drag,” alongside Lizzy Caplan, Christine Ko, and Lucy DeVito, which premiered at SXSW in March 2026 before Briarcliff Entertainment picked it up for a wider release. Stamos also revisited his “Full House” years in an April 2026 interview with Access Hollywood, recalling how his casting as Jesse Katsopolis followed his run on “General Hospital.” He has continued to honor the memory of longtime co-star Bob Saget, sharing personal photos from their friendship around what would have been Saget’s 70th birthday. Off-screen, Stamos has said he has no plans to join “Dancing with the Stars” despite regularly being asked.
