Jason Momoa Admits Filming Fight Scenes at 46 Is Painful While Shooting ‘The Wrecking Crew’

Jason Momoa is opening up about the real pain behind filming intense action scenes as he gets older. The 46-year-old actor recently spoke about the physical challenges he faced while working on his new action movie, The Wrecking Crew, which also stars Dave Bautista.

In an interview with TODAY, Momoa shared that action work does not feel the same anymore. Speaking during Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist, he admitted that filming fight scenes now comes with real pain. “He’s 50, and I’m almost there, and it hurts,” Momoa said while talking about working opposite Bautista. The full interview appeared on TODAY and was published on January 25, 2026.

Momoa described one especially tough scene where both actors were fighting in the rain. He recalled Bautista being on top of him during the sequence, adding heavy pressure while delivering punches for the camera. Momoa joked that he had to shut his eyes and warn Bautista not to actually hit him, saying it would be over if that happened. Though the moment was shared with humor, it showed how demanding the scene truly was.

In The Wrecking Crew, Jason Momoa plays a reckless police officer who is forced to work with his estranged brother, played by Dave Bautista, to investigate the mysterious death of their father. The story is set in Hawaii, which holds special meaning for Momoa. Born in the state in 1979, he said he was happy to show a different side of Hawaii on screen.

The movie has an interesting history. Bautista first talked about the idea back in 2021, when he tweeted about wanting to make a buddy-cop movie with Momoa. While the film was not directed by David Leitch as originally imagined, Ángel Manuel Soto later came on board and brought the project to life.

Momoa also shared how well he and Bautista connected during filming. He described Bautista as quiet, humble, and ego-free, while calling himself loud and energetic. Despite being opposites, Momoa said their bond helped shape the movie’s chemistry.

The Wrecking Crew will release on Prime Video on January 28, 2026. The film adds to Momoa’s growing list of action roles, following his work in Game of Thrones, Aquaman, and A Minecraft Movie.

Even as the pain increases with age, Jason Momoa is clearly not slowing down. His latest project proves he is still ready to take risks, push his limits, and deliver high-energy performances for fans around the world.
