Fans of romantic movies have good news to celebrate. Filming has officially started on Red, White & Royal Wedding, the sequel to the popular 2023 rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue. The update came through a behind-the-scenes video shared on Instagram, where lead actors Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine confirmed they are back on set.
As per people, in the short video, posted on the movie’s official Instagram page, the actors greet fans and tease what’s coming next. Galitzine, who plays Prince Henry, smiles and says “Welcome back,” while Perez, who plays Alex Claremont-Diaz, jokingly clears up a big question. He explains that the “wedding” mentioned in the title is not Alex and Henry’s wedding, but instead belongs to Princess Beatrice, Henry’s sister.
This fun clarification quickly excited fans, many of whom have been waiting for updates since the sequel was announced. The video was shared along with the caption “we’re SO beyond back,” making it clear that production is fully underway.
The sequel is written by Casey McQuiston, the author of the original novel, along with Gemma Burgess and Matthew López, who wrote and directed the first film. This time, directing duties are handled by Jamie Babbit, known for the cult classic But I’m a Cheerleader. In a statement, Babbit said she was thrilled to return to a story filled with hope, romance, and queer joy.
Matthew López also shared his excitement, saying he loved continuing Alex and Henry’s story and felt confident passing the director’s chair to Babbit. According to Amazon, plot details are being kept secret for now.
The first film became a fan favorite for its sweet love story, humor, and representation, and the sequel is already being compared to other popular romance stories like Heated Rivalry. While fans will have to wait for a release date, filming updates like this confirm that Alex and Henry’s story is far from over.
For now, fans can rest easy knowing the sequel is officially in progress — and the royal romance is returning soon.
