Fallout is back in production — and Walton Goggins made sure fans were the first to know.
The actor, who plays both The Ghoul and Cooper Howard across the show’s dual timelines, took to Instagram to confirm that Season 3 of Prime Video’s post-apocalyptic drama is officially filming. His post offered fans a rare behind-the-scenes look at the extensive makeup transformation process that turns him into the Wasteland’s most memorable nigh-immortal mutant, along with a pair of dusty cowboy boots and a scorpion belt buckle that would feel right at home in the Wasteland. The caption made his message clear — he was firmly “back in the saddle.”
Both the official Fallout account and Kilter Films have since reposted the images, providing additional confirmation that production is underway, according to Polygon.

A Star-Studded New Cast
Season 3 brings with it a wave of exciting new additions to an already strong ensemble. Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad and Westworld is joining the series in an undisclosed role, alongside Emily Mortimer of The Newsroom, Manny Jacinto of The Good Place and The Acolyte, and Thomasin McKenzie of Jojo Rabbit and Last Night in Soho. Prime Video has not yet revealed which characters any of the new cast members will be playing.
Returning leads Ella Purnell, who plays Vault dweller Lucy MacLean, and Aaron Moten, who plays Brotherhood of Steel soldier Maximus, are both expected back for the new season, though neither has yet publicly confirmed their return.
Where Is the Story Headed?
Following the events of Season 2 in New Vegas, early indications suggest The Ghoul may be heading toward Colorado next, with the possibility of additional stops along the way. Moten has previously indicated he was pitched on a five or six season arc for his character — a strong signal that Season 3 is nowhere near the end of the road for Fallout on Prime Video.
The series has been one of Amazon’s biggest success stories, with Season 1 amassing over 100 million views by October 2024 and earning 17 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor for Goggins. Season 2 built on that momentum with generally positive reviews, though some critics noted pacing issues in certain storylines.
When Will Season 3 Release?
Prime Video has not yet announced a release date for Fallout Season 3. Given that the gap between Seasons 1 and 2 was under two years, a mid to late 2027 premiere appears most likely based on the current filming timeline.
‘Fallout’ Season 3 Update (2026)
Updated September 2026. Filming on “Fallout” Season 3 began in May 2026 and has continued through the summer in and around Santa Clarita, California, the same region that hosted Season 2’s production. Amazon has not set an official release date, but based on the show’s prior turnaround — Season 2 took roughly 13 months from wrap to premiere — estimates point to a window sometime in 2027, with some projections landing as late as August 2027. Executive producer Jonathan Nolan has called the long gap between seasons an “unfortunate trend” and said the team wants to get back on air as quickly as possible without losing the show’s scope. Star Walton Goggins recently shared a behind-the-scenes photo in Ghoul makeup, confirming production is actively underway.
