Extraction 3 Filming Set to Begin in June 2026 as Chris Hemsworth Returns for Netflix’s Action Sequel

A big update has arrived for fans waiting for Netflix’s action franchise “Extraction.” The upcoming film Extraction 3 is now preparing to begin production, and the filming schedule has finally been revealed.

According to What’s On Netflix, the new sequel starring Chris Hemsworth is expected to start filming in June 2026. Production is currently planned to run for several months and is expected to wrap on October 9, 2026. This marks the next major step in bringing the third chapter of the popular action series to life.

This time, the movie will be filmed mainly in Sydney, Australia. The first two films in the franchise were shot in locations like Thailand, India, and Prague, but the production team is moving to a new base for the upcoming sequel. Reports also say that additional filming will take place somewhere in Europe, although the exact countries or cities have not yet been confirmed.

Interestingly, Sydney was originally planned as the main filming location for Extraction 2, but those plans had to change because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now the production team finally gets the chance to film the new movie there.

Director Sam Hargrave will return to lead the project again. Hargrave has worked in the film industry for more than 20 years as a stunt coordinator before directing the first two Extraction movies. He has also worked on major films like Deadpool 2, Suicide Squad, Conan the Barbarian, and several Hunger Games movies.

The film will once again be produced by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, the well-known filmmakers behind Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Joe Russo is also writing the screenplay for the movie. Other producers attached to the project include Mike Larocca, Eric Gitter, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Peter Schwerin.

The Extraction story follows Tyler Rake, played by Chris Hemsworth, a former Australian Special Air Service Regiment soldier who takes on extremely dangerous rescue missions. The franchise is based on the graphic novel “Ciudad”, created by Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, and Ande Parks.

The first film introduced audiences to Rake’s dangerous mission to rescue a kidnapped boy connected to a crime lord. In Extraction 2, the story became more personal when Rake tried to save members of his ex-wife’s imprisoned family.

Fans are also expecting to see familiar faces return. Director Sam Hargrave previously hinted that Idris Elba, Golshifteh Farahani, and Olga Kurylenko, who appeared in Extraction 2, could return in the upcoming sequel. However, Netflix has not officially confirmed the full cast list yet.

The Extraction universe may also grow even bigger soon. Reports say that the franchise could expand with a spinoff film titled “Tygo” and a new eight-episode series called “Mercenary: An Extraction Series.”

For now, fans will have to wait a little longer, as Netflix has not announced an official release date for Extraction 3 yet. But with filming expected to begin in June 2026, the action-packed sequel is clearly moving forward.
