Dylan O’Brien and Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams have been spotted on set for the very first time while filming their upcoming psychological thriller, Apparatus, in Toronto, Canada. The two actors were seen together on Thursday, April 9, 2026, marking the first public look at the highly anticipated project.
According to a report by Deadline, the casting was confirmed on March 27, with Send Help star O’Brien, 34, playing JP, described as a “charismatic entrepreneur,” and Williams, 25, stepping into the role of Tyler, a struggling rideshare driver.
Both actors were dressed in casual outfits during the shoot. O’Brien wore a relaxed pinstripe blazer over a black shirt and black jeans. Williams kept it laid-back in khaki pants and a sage green windbreaker.
The film is written and directed by Canadian filmmaker Sofia Banzhaf. The story follows Tyler, whose life takes a dark turn after he crosses paths with JP. The film’s official logline describes how JP lures Tyler in with the promise of a dream opportunity, but the arrangement soon descends into a violent downward spiral, pushing the protagonist to his very limits.
Apparatus comes at an exciting time for both stars. Hudson Williams first gained wide attention through Heated Rivalry, a gay hockey romance series that debuted on HBO Max and Crave on November 29, 2025. The show was a massive hit and quickly made both Williams and his co-star Connor Storrie internationally known.
Beyond Apparatus, Williams is also part of the Crave series Yaga, and has already wrapped his scenes for that project. He is also set to appear in two films — Encore and 8 — both currently in post-production.
For Dylan O’Brien, best known for The Maze Runner film series and MTV’s Teen Wolf, this new thriller adds to a busy recent stretch. He most recently starred in Send Help alongside Rachel McAdams, a survivalist drama that premiered in January 2026. Before that, he appeared in Anniversary, a dystopian political thriller that debuted in October 2025.
O’Brien also has Being Heumann coming up — a film based on the memoir of disability activist Judy Heumann. That project is also currently being filmed in Toronto and is set to release on Apple TV.
With two major talents joining forces under a gripping premise, Apparatus is shaping up to be one of the most exciting thrillers in the pipeline for 2026.
