Blade Runner 2099 production at Belfast Harbor Studios in Northern Ireland may be delayed until spring 2024 due to the WGA/AMPTP writers’ strike.
Northern Ireland Screen noted, “Northern Ireland Screen confirmed ‘Blade Runner 2099’ has been delayed. Northern Ireland Screen is extremely disappointed that ‘Blade Runner 2099′ is not going ahead at this time due to the ongoing writers’ strike. The project has been prepping on the ground in Belfast for many months now.
Northern Ireland Screen said, “Northern Ireland Screen confirmed ‘Blade Runner 2099’ has been delayed. Northern Ireland Screen is extremely disappointed that ‘Blade Runner 2099‘ is not going ahead at this time due to the ongoing writers’ strike.”
“The project has been prepping on the ground in Belfast for many months now. The WGA strike has been halting production all over the world, and we hope a fair deal is reached soon so [the] crew can get back to work.”
According to the list of production, it seems that some filming of the action drama mystery series may start on October 2, with “Northern Ireland” listed as the location.
While it might seem surprising considering the SAG-AFTRA & WGA strikes, it’s quite possible (much like what FX Networks & Noah Hawley are doing with their “Alien” series) that filming involving international actors who aren’t SAF-AFTRA-affiliated could be in play.
This may seem surprising given the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, it is possible that filming involved such international actors. that are not affiliated with SAF-AFTRA.
In addition, there may also be filming of the location/environment. And the possibility cannot be ruled out that the production notice was not removed – although the last update was filed on July 31.

Blade Runner 2099 Update (2026)
Updated July 2026. The Northern Ireland shoot referenced here was part of a production that stretched on for years. Blade Runner 2099, starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, was delayed nearly a year by the 2023 Hollywood strikes. All eight episodes are now set to premiere on Prime Video on November 25, 2026 in more than 240 countries and territories, with the release date confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026.
