Ben Kweller’s Son Dorian Zev with Liz Smith Kweller is no more among us. Dorian Zev was also a musician like his father and was only 16 years old and died due to a car accident.
Dorian Zev’s parents announced this news in separate posts on social media “There’s no way that I can be typing this but I am…. Our son, Dorian Zev Kweller, was killed last night. He was only 16 and he was a true legend.”
“A kindest, gentle soul, a friend to all. If you knew him, you know. We’ll never get over him as long as we’re here on earth. Please keep his spirit alive with your memories and the music he made,” they added.
“Dorian Zev wrote and recorded songs every day. A true poet from the day he started speaking, Only a few of his recordings were released but he was on a path and excited about his journey.” Ben continued.
Dorian created music under the name Zev and has released many songs named “SH3,” “How I Am,” “4th of July,” and “Parachute,”.
Kweller’s wife, Liz Smith Kweller also confirmed it was by a car accident on her social media.

Updated July 2026. Ben Kweller has channeled his grief into music since his son Dorian’s death. In 2026 he released “Cover the Mirrors,” his first album since the accident, timed to arrive on May 30 — what would have been Dorian’s 19th birthday. The 12-track record features guest performances from Waxahatchee, MJ Lenderman, the Flaming Lips, and Coconut Records, and Kweller has described making the music as one of the only ways he found peace amid the grief. Dorian, who was also a musician, continues to be remembered by family, friends, and fans of his father’s work.
