Canadian actor, writer, director, and singer Gordon Pinsent is no more among us. Pinsent died in his sleep on the night of February 25, 2023,‘ Away From Her’ Star Gordon Pinsent Dies at 92.
Pinsent’s death news was confirmed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. Gordon Pinsent’s family released statements about the death.
“Gordon Pinsent’s daughters Leah and Beverly, and his son Barry, would like to announce the passing of their father peacefully in sleep today with his family at his side,” released late Saturday, on behalf of Pinsent’s family by his son-in-law, actor Peter Keleghan.
“Gordon passionately loved this country and its people, purpose, and culture to his last breath,” they added. Gordon Pinsent’s friend comedian and actor Mark Critch posted on tweeter about him and his grief towards him.
Pinsent, also he was a shy, awkward child and also once suffered from rickets and found freedom in acting, starting in the 1940s at the age of 17. Pinsent married actress Charmion King in 1962 and remained together until her death in 2007. They have a daughter together named Leah Pinsent, who is also an actress who is married and has two children.

Updated July 2026. Gordon Pinsent died on February 25, 2023, at age 92 following complications from a cerebral hemorrhage, closing out a career that spanned more than six decades on stage and screen. Newfoundland and Labrador’s arts community has remembered him as a trailblazer, credited with showing that stories set in the province and told in its own voice could reach national audiences. A celebration of his life at The Rooms in St. John’s drew friends including Rick Mercer and Mary Walsh, and his hometown of Grand Falls-Windsor later unveiled a statue in his honor.
