Andy Serkis Teases Emotional Return as Filming Plans for The Batman: Part II Move Forward

Fans of The Batman are getting a fresh update as Luther: The Fallen Sun star Andy Serkis has shared new details about the upcoming sequel, The Batman: Part II, and its filming timeline.

The actor, who plays Alfred Pennyworth, recently opened up about his return while speaking in an interview with ScreenRant. He revealed that even though filming is expected to begin soon, he may not join the production right away.

According to Andy Serkis, the team is planning to start filming around May 2026, but he is currently busy working on another project, The Hunt for Gollum. Because of this, he said he will likely join the filming of The Batman: Part II later in the year.

Still, the actor confirmed that he will definitely return before filming ends. This means fans can expect to see Alfred back on screen alongside Bruce Wayne, played by Robert Pattinson.

The sequel will also bring back familiar faces like Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon and Colin Farrell as The Penguin. There are also talks that Barry Keoghan could return as The Joker, although this has not been officially confirmed yet.

During the interview, Serkis did not share story details but gave an important hint. He said the new film will be “very emotional.” He praised director Matt Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin for creating a story that feels deeply personal.

He also spoke about the relationship between Alfred and Bruce, calling it a close but complicated bond. Fans may see this emotional connection grow even stronger in the sequel.

The first film, The Batman, showed Bruce dealing with loss, fear, and the dark truth about Gotham City. The sequel is expected to go even deeper into these themes, especially as Bruce continues to uncover hidden secrets about his family and the city.

Even though Andy Serkis will join filming later, it is not expected to reduce his role. The first movie had a long production schedule, and the sequel could follow a similar path. This gives enough time for his character to have a strong presence in the story.

As of now, The Batman: Part II is still on track for its planned release in October 2027. With filming moving forward and the cast returning, excitement around the sequel continues to grow.

Fans can now look forward to a darker and more emotional chapter in Batman’s journey.
