Amber Davies had a message for theater audiences this week — and she delivered it during the intermission of a Legally Blonde: The Musical performance in Dublin, Ireland, while still in character mode.
The actress, who plays Elle Woods in the UK and Ireland touring production, took to her Instagram Stories on Saturday, July 11 during the interval at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre to address an incident that had disrupted the evening’s performance, according to PEOPLE, citing BBC and The London Evening Standard.
Davies explained that a woman sitting in the front row had been filming the entirety of Act One without stopping — a clear violation of standard theater rules — and that the behavior had been visible and distracting enough to affect the entire cast’s ability to perform at their best. She described it as having “ruined the morale” of what was otherwise a strong performance on the group’s eighth show of a Saturday night, calling the act of filming a “selfish” one given the impact it had on everyone on stage.
She made clear that she had already asked venue staff whether the audience member could be removed before Act Two began, and that she was hoping they would not be returning to their seat after the break.
What made Davies’ response particularly pointed was the fact that she wasn’t simply venting in the moment. She revealed that she had already encountered multiple instances of audience members filming during performances in Ireland that week, and that she has developed a habit of tracking exactly how many seats away a culprit is sitting from the nearest exit. Her message was direct — she would identify anyone filming and have them asked to leave.
She closed her Instagram address with a straightforward appeal to audiences to simply be present for the two and a half hours of the show rather than reaching for their phones, before heading back to complete Act Two.
Davies has been performing as Elle Woods in the Legally Blonde touring production since February 2026, having previously appeared in Pretty Woman and 9 to 5 on the musical stage. She is also a 2017 Love Island UK winner and recently made the final of the UK’s Strictly Come Dancing.
