One of cinema’s most remarkable second-life stories is about to enter its next chapter. Jennifer’s Body 2 is moving forward — with the original creative team and both lead actresses confirmed to be returning.
According to Production Weekly, as reported by Phantasmag, the sequel is scheduled to begin filming in Vancouver this October. 20th Century Studios has not yet made an official announcement, but Dread Central has separately confirmed Megan Fox’s involvement in the project.

The Full Team Is Back
The sequel will reunite not just the stars but the creative voices behind the original. Diablo Cody, who wrote Lisa Frankenstein and described Jennifer’s Body as the project where she most felt like herself as an artist, is returning to write the script. Director Karyn Kusama, who helmed the original and has since gone on to produce the acclaimed series Yellowjackets, is also back to direct.
Speaking with Deadline last autumn, Kusama offered a tantalizing tease about the direction of the sequel — describing it as fun and crazy in the spirit of the first film, and expressing complete confidence in Cody’s ability to deliver something genuinely extraordinary with the material.
Fox and Amanda Seyfried are both returning in their original roles — Fox as the demon-possessed Jennifer and Seyfried as her best friend Needy. Seyfried has been teasing the sequel repeatedly during recent press tours, a strategy that may well have been coordinated to generate early buzz ahead of the official announcement.
From Box Office Disaster to Cult Icon
The original Jennifer’s Body had a famously difficult release when it arrived in 2009, grossing far below expectations and receiving a mixed critical reception. In the years that followed, however, the film developed an intensely devoted following — particularly within LGBTQ+ communities who connected with its themes, its tone, and its central female relationship — and eventually achieved the kind of cult classic status that makes sequels not just possible but genuinely desirable.
Cody reflected on that journey earlier this year in comments to Phantasmag, describing the film’s original failure as something that closed doors for her at the time — only for its later cult success to reopen them, leading to Lisa Frankenstein and other projects. She described feeling like she had returned to exactly where she belongs creatively.
Jennifer’s Body 2 is expected to begin filming in Vancouver in October 2026, with a release date yet to be announced by 20th Century Studios.
