Christina Applegate opens up about the life-changing effects after diagnosed with multiple sclerosis

Christina Applegate has given more insight into how much multiple sclerosis has changed her life. In a Vanity Fair interview, the actress Christina Applegate shared little things she took for granted before her diagnosis with MS in 2021.

MS is different in each case for some people it goes through life and for some people it’s only a minor problem and for some, it becomes seriously disabled. Applegate revealed the news on social media that she was diagnosed with MS.

Women are more likely to have MS, but men can get it too, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society said.

“With the disease of MS, it’s never a good day, You just have little shitty days. People are like, ‘Well, why don’t you take more showers?’ Well, because getting in the shower is frightening. You can fall, you can slip, your legs can buckle. Especially because I have a glass shower. It’s frightening to me to get in there.” she said

“There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives that I took for granted,” she admitted. “Going down the stairs, carrying things you can’t do that anymore. It f—ing sucks,” she added

In February 2026, she shared that she’s now largely bedridden, leaving the house mainly to drive her daughter Sadie to school. Her memoir, ‘You With the Sad Eyes,’ published March 3, 2026, detailed the daily physical toll of the disease, including mornings when she can’t reach the water glass by her bed. After a hospitalization scare drew concern from fans, Applegate offered a brief update calling herself “a strong chick” who’s “getting stronger and better every day.” Her ‘Dead to Me’ co-star and podcast partner Jamie-Lynn Sigler has continued to speak warmly about her resilience.
