Rebel Moon is an upcoming American epic space opera film based on a story he also created with Johnstad and directed by Zack Snyder is set to be released on December 22, 2023, by Netflix. and Rebel Moon Part 2 is also set to be shot with the film back-to-back.
Re-recording mixer Andy Koyama who worked on Rebel Moon film and also on Keanu Reeve’s latest John Wick: Chapter 4 revealed that the cast and crew are working on getting an R-rated cut of the film and mixing four different features with each part of the film.
According to Collider andy Koyama said, “We just did the first temp mix for the preview of part one, and it’s very exciting. It’s a big, huge, space they probably don’t want me to say this ‘Star Wars’-y, ‘rebels against the evil empire’ thing over all sorts of different worlds. It’s really fun.
“There are going to be two films. I think we’re mixing that from June to February. And there’s also going to be extended R-rated versions of each of the two films, so we’re going to be mixing four different features.” he added
Rebel Moon film features stars like Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Ray Fisher, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Jena Malone, Corey Stoll, Fra Fee, Cary Elwes, Cleopatra Coleman, and Anthony Hopkins. Here is the trailer of the film.

Rebel Moon’s R-Rated Cuts Arrived — Then the Franchise Stalled
Updated July 2026. Both halves of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon got their promised R-rated versions — Chalice of Blood and Curse of Forgiveness — alongside the PG-13 theatrical cuts on Netflix in 2023 and 2024. Neither version changed the story’s reception; both remain among the biggest straight-to-streaming releases Netflix has produced, but not the kind that generates demand for more. No third film has been greenlit, though co-writer Kurt Johnstad says Snyder has the wider universe fully outlined and remains hopeful the story continues if the opportunity comes around.
