Where Are They Filming the Live-Action Tangled

Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled is currently in active production across Spain — and for fans eager to know exactly where Rapunzel and Flynn Rider’s story is being brought to life, the answer spans multiple regions and some genuinely stunning locations.

The Primary Production Hub: Alicante

The heart of the production is Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante, which regional officials confirmed as the official coordination center for the entire shoot. Juanfran Pérez Llorca, president of the Generalitat Valenciana, confirmed the studio’s involvement following months of negotiations to bring the project to the region. The facility has previously hosted major international productions, making it a well-equipped base for a production of this scale.

Girona: The Kingdom Comes to Life

One of the most visually striking filming locations confirmed so far is Girona, where local outlets reported streets filled with extras dressed as royal guards and townspeople in period costume in late July. Fan account Tangled Updates on X shared footage from what appeared to be a kingdom set filmed in the city, showing Teagan Croft as Rapunzel surrounded by a lively village square, with women braiding flowers into her long hair as part of what looks like a festival sequence. The scene closely echoes a beloved moment from the 2010 animated film, in which Rapunzel finally experiences her long-awaited day among the kingdom’s people.

Tarragona, San Martín de Valdeiglesias, and Burgos

Beyond Alicante and Girona, production has also been confirmed across Tarragona, San Martín de Valdeiglesias in Madrid province, and Burgos in Castile and León — giving the film a geographically diverse visual palette that spans from the Mediterranean coast to Castilian landscapes.

The Cast and Creative Team

Croft leads the film as Rapunzel opposite Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider, with Kathryn Hahn portraying the villainous Mother Gothel. Diego Luna has also joined in an original role created specifically for this adaptation, while Patrick and Hugo McPherson play the Stabbington Brothers. The film is directed by Michael Gracey — who helmed The Greatest Showman — from a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Michael Montemayor.

When Did Filming Start and How Long Will It Run?

Production began in late June 2026 and is expected to continue for approximately eight months, suggesting principal photography will run well into 2027.

When Will the Live-Action Tangled Be Released?

Disney has not confirmed an official release date. Some outlets have suggested a 2028 window based on unconfirmed reports, while earlier speculation pointed toward 2027 — both should be treated as estimates until Disney makes an official announcement.
