Spencer Pratt isn’t just running for Mayor of Los Angeles — he’s turning the entire journey into a reality show. And if he wins? The cameras keep rolling, right inside City Hall.
According to TMZ, Hulu’s Got To Get Out star Pratt, has officially signed a contract with a Los Angeles-based production company to document his run for mayor. A crew is already filming him, his wife Heidi Montag, 39, and their two sons — Gunner, 8, and Ryker, 3 — as they navigate life on the campaign trail.
What makes this deal truly unprecedented is a specific clause buried in the contract: if Pratt is sworn in as mayor, filming will be permitted to continue inside the mayor’s official office. The family would also presumably relocate to the mayor’s official residence in Hancock Park, Los Angeles.
The couple’s return to unscripted TV would come full circle for two people who became household names on MTV’s The Hills, which premiered in 2006. Pratt joined the cast in 2007, and together he and Montag became two of the show’s most talked-about personalities. They later appeared on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, Celebrity Big Brother UK, and the revival series The Hills: New Beginnings.
The road to this campaign, however, was paved by tragedy. The Palisades Fire of January 2025 destroyed the family’s $2.5 million home, and the couple has remained displaced ever since. Rather than stepping back from public life, Pratt leaned in — using TikTok to document the devastation in real time. His posts went viral, and exactly one year after the blaze, he announced his candidacy for Los Angeles mayor, per the Los Angeles Times.
Now, ahead of the Tuesday, June 2 primary, Pratt is challenging incumbent Mayor Karen Bass and City Councilmember Nithya Raman. He has publicly expressed confidence in his chances — a bold stance for a former reality TV villain taking on seasoned politicians in one of America’s largest cities.
Whether LA voters are ready to embrace that kind of outsider energy remains an open question. But one thing is certain — win or lose, the cameras won’t stop rolling.
