Recently, the latest news related to the filming of “Palm Royale” has come out, which has revealed that there will be places to be seen in Palm Royale, The Prince restaurant (Koreatown Bar) is a powerful place for a special kind of atmosphere which has been used for films like before in ‘Chinatown,’ ‘Mad Men,’ and ‘New Girl‘.
Even if you haven’t been to Los Angeles, you probably know The Prince Restaurant because this Koreatown bar has been considered a major film and TV filming location since being seen in Roman Polanski’s “Chinatown” scene where Evelyn Mulwray and Jake Gittes sit together at a red leather banquette.
While in the film “Mad Men,” The Prince is known as The Griffin, Apart from this, this bar is also displayed very prominently in the film “New Girl”.
Now The Prince restaurant has also been seen in the first episode of the new Apple TV+ series “Palm Royale” for providing the perfect backdrop for the filming of the 3 movies mentioned above.
The restaurant is depicted as a dive bar in the series; mainly, the scene appears in the first episode of the series, where Maxine Simmons and Dinah Donahue go for a private conversation, away from the eyes of their neighbors, which is actually filmed at The Prince restaurant in Los Angeles.
Show creator Tate Taylor has visited this restaurant several times before, as per indiewire reports, he said jokingly:-
“I’ve been there a lot and more than a few times forgotten that I left.”
Reasons Why “Palm Royale” Chose The Prince as a Filming Location
Stacey B. Brashear, a member of Series Location Management during the filming of the Palm Royale, explained:-
“It’s so dark in [The Prince], you can shoot in that bar in the middle of the day,” “So the door opens, and the sun shines right in on them.”
Stacey further added:-
“Because it has that horseshoe bar, it’s really ideal for shooting,”
“You can get the angles from somewhat across the bar, the back of the bartender. Most bars are galley-like, so [The Prince] is just great for filming.”
“It can transform into elegant or dive bar.”
Continuing her point, Brashear further adds:-
“It was a really hard show,”
“Palm Beach is one of the harder cities to duplicate in L.A. Palm Beach is the size of a stamp, and they keep wanting more and more locations. And I’m like, ‘But Palm Beach, you’d be going to the same places all the time!’ Our country club was six to eight locations. The Ebell was mostly our hub, [but] the pool was shot somewhere else, the golf course…. all Frankensteined together!”
The Prince, whose address is 3198 1, 2 W 7th St, Los Angeles, CA 90005, has given the background to many films and series, including Palm Royale, till now and will continue to do so in the future, too.
