The HBO series “House of the Dragon” will continue filming in the UK despite the SAG-AFTRA actor’s strike, a new report from Variety.
It is based on author George R.R. Martin’s books “Game of Thrones”, “Fire & Blood,” and “House of the Dragon” which has been filming its second season at Warner Bros.’ Leavesden Studios since April 11.
On Thursday, the actors of the US union announced a strike due to the inability to new deal with AMPTP, According to the sources that production on the second season of the “Game of Thrones” prequel plans to proceed as scheduled.
The cast of House of the Dragons is from the UK. The actors who are working under contract to their local union, Equity. Therefore, filming of the series is allowed to continue as Equity members are not legally permitted to strike in solidarity with SAG-AFTRA.
On Thursday the equity replied to news of the strike before it was officially declared, saying they would “support SAG-AFTRA and its members in all legitimate ways.”
“A performer joining the strike (or refusing to cross a picket line) in the U.K. will have no protection against being dismissed or sued for breach of contract by the producer or the engaged.”
“Likewise, if Equity encourages anyone to join the strike or not cross a picket line, Equity itself will be acting unlawfully and hence liable for damages or an injunction,” Equity said.
It was declared that the union represents 160,000 film and television actors who are preparing to strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
AMPTP was formed to represent studios, streaming services, and broadcast networks in labor negotiations with unions.
The contract expired on July 12, and SAG-AFTRA’s negotiating committee voted unanimously to recommend a strike. It is the first time in 60 years that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have gone on strike together.
