The filming of the film started on August 10, 2015, in Los Angeles and filming took place in more than 60 locations both in and near Los Angeles.
Chazelle the director of the film wanted Los Angeles to be the primary setting for his film, and he wanted the musical numbers of the film to be filmed fully and performed in a single take. The film took 40 days to complete shooting, finishing in mid-September 2015.

Also, Seb’s – interior scenes were filmed at The Blind Donkey – 149 Linden Ave. At 1735 Bird Way, the scenes in the film were recorded in which Sebastian walks down an alley and turns the wrong way onto a one-way street.
