Karl Urban Says He Needed a “Double Tequila” After Long Days Filming ‘The Bluff’

Karl Urban has opened up about how hard it was to film his new pirate movie The Bluff – and he says he needed a “double tequila” at the end of every single day.

The 53-year-old actor stars as a pirate in the new Amazon Prime Video adventure film alongside Priyanka Chopra. The movie is full of action, sea battles, and intense scenes. But behind the camera, the filming was just as tough.

Speaking on The Discourse podcast, Karl shared how exhausting the shoot was. He said, “At the end of every single day, I would go and get all the stuff taken off, and I would have a double tequila ready to go and ready for that car ride home.”

The actor explained that wearing heavy pirate costumes and filming outdoors made each day very long and tiring.

Priyanka Chopra, who joined him on the podcast, agreed that the shoot was not easy. She joked that she needed even more than a drink to recover. “I definitely needed a tetanus shot, a margarita, and a bottle of wine,” she said with a laugh.

The Bluff was filmed on location in Australia, which was used to look like the Cayman Islands in the movie. Karl said shooting outdoors instead of in a studio helped make the film feel real. He explained that being out in the wind, sun, and natural surroundings made it easier for actors to fully step into their roles.

“The more work you put into anything, the better the results you’re going to see on screen,” he said during the conversation. He added that filming on real locations gives the movie a true and natural feel.

Still, the cast had to push through tough days. Priyanka shared that there was “no time for anybody to fall sick.” The schedule was tight, and everyone had to stay strong to finish the project.

In the film, Priyanka plays a former pirate mother who will do anything to protect her son. She revealed that her real-life experience as a mom helped her connect deeply to the role. She said she was a new mother when she first read the script, and her daughter was just two years old at the time. That feeling of wanting to protect her child became her character’s main motivation.

The Bluff was released on February 25 on Amazon Prime Video and is now streaming worldwide.

Despite the hard days and the need for a “double tequila,” both stars say the movie turned out great -and audiences can now see the results of their intense pirate adventure on screen.
