James Gunn’s Superman Movie Unveils First Set Photo as Filming Takes a Chilling Turn

The filming of the James Gunn film Superman has started, and the first scenes of ten studios have been revealed.

The director of the film talked about the scenes that were shot in Norway. He also discussed about the first scene filmed of movie, in which David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, and he also tells that why chose Svalbard as the filming location.

The director and writter James Gunn told Svalbardposten that they had filmed “the first scenes” when Superman flies to “the ice fortress.”

“We’ve filmed the first scenes which is when Superman flees to the ice fortress. We were looking for a location that was beautiful and known to be like being out in the Arctic and therefore looked at multiple locations in the world.”

“But there were a lot of things that sold Svalbard to us above the other places. For one, it is the natural beauty. But also that you find a varied landscape here that you don’t find at other places. The nature gives it a special feeling.”

He also told that earlier they had named the film as Superman movie, however, they later told that Superman: Legacy will now be called just Superman.

Sperman is an superhero film which is based on DC Comics. The film is Produced by DC Studios and to be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

The film is set to be released on July 11, 2025. The film stars are Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Milly Alcock, Skyler Gisondo, Wendell Pierce, Anthony Carrigan, and Edi Gathegi.

The main photography of the film started on February 29, 2024, in Svalbard, Norway, and the DC Studios co-head is knocking the first scene.

Updated August 2026. That first set photo turned out to be an early look at what became a genuine box office hit. James Gunn’s Superman opened July 11, 2025 with a $125 million domestic debut, beating Man of Steel’s opening record, and went on to cross $600 million worldwide — making it the highest-grossing superhero movie of 2025, ahead of every Marvel release that year. Critics were largely on board too, with the film settling at an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the best for a Superman film since the Christopher Reeve era.
