HGTV Cancels ‘Rehab Addict’ After Nicole Curtis’ Offensive Comment During Filming Sparks Backlash

Rehab Addict has officially been canceled after its star Nicole Curtis was heard using a racial slur while filming the show.

HGTV is a well-known home and lifestyle television network and streaming platform, where many popular renovation and design shows are available to watch, like Rock the Block, Help I Wrecked My House, Fix My Frankenhouse, and No Demo Reno. Rehab Addict, which began in 2010, was one of the long-running series that built a loyal fan base over the years.

The controversy began when a video clip surfaced online on February 11, the same day the series was scheduled to return with new episodes. The footage, first reported by Radar Online, showed Curtis using the offensive word during filming. In the clip, she quickly realized what she had said and asked for the moment to be cut. However, the video was later shared publicly.

In a statement given to PEOPLE, HGTV confirmed the decision to remove the show. “We were recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict,” the network said. “Language like this is hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees. It does not align with the values of HGTV.” The network added that the series has been removed from all of its platforms. According to PEOPLE, HGTV also said it remains committed to respect and inclusion in both its content and workplace.

Curtis later responded to the situation in a statement to TMZ. She apologized and said the word she used “is wrong and not part of my vocabulary and never has been.” She also said she was sorry to everyone affected.

In her message, Curtis reflected on her long journey with the show. She said she was grateful for the 15 years she spent working on it. However, she shared that her main focus right now is on her family, relationships, and community. She also posted part of her text conversation with TMZ on her Instagram Stories. In that post, she explained that there is “more to the story,” but she needs to focus on being a mom at this time.

Rehab Addict first premiered in 2010. The show followed Curtis as she restored old homes that were close to being demolished. It became popular with fans who loved home renovation and historic preservation.

The series returned in June 2025 for its ninth season after a long break. But after only two episodes aired, Curtis announced in July that she had decided to pause the rest of the season until fall. Later, in October, she said she had re-edited the remaining episodes following talks with HGTV.

Earlier this month, HGTV and Curtis had announced that new episodes would air on February 11. Instead, the show has now been removed completely.
