Halle Berry Opens Up About Confronting Director During X-Men Filming While Promoting Crime 101

Halle Berry is speaking honestly about a powerful moment from her past while promoting her new movie Crime 101. The Oscar-winning actress shared that she once stood up to Bryan Singer during the filming of X-Men 2, and it became one of the most unforgettable days of her career.

Halle Berry is currently starring in Crime 101 alongside Ghostbusters star Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoghan. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the film, she explained that her own experiences with sexism, racism, and ageism helped her connect deeply with her character.

“I thought, wow, I have an opportunity here to put in film something that I’m wildly passionate about personally,” Berry said during the interview. She explained that the role felt very close to her real life. At first, she worried the performance might feel too personal. But later, she decided it was okay to let some of her real feelings show on screen.

In Crime 101, Halle Berry plays a woman named Sharon who strongly confronts her boss in one intense scene. The actress revealed that she once had a similar moment in real life while working on X-Men 2.

Berry said that during filming, many people on set were upset. She explained that the cast and crew encouraged her to speak up because they believed she would do it. “It was one of the greatest days on a set,” she said, describing the moment she confronted the director.

According to Halle Berry, the issue happened after a stunt reportedly went wrong and left Hugh Jackman injured. Reports from The Hollywood Reporter in 2020 claimed the situation happened during tension between director Bryan Singer and producer Tom DeSanto. The report stated that a stunt was filmed without proper supervision and that Jackman was left bleeding. Sources claimed the cast confronted Singer, and Berry strongly spoke out.

However, a representative for Bryan Singer denied the claims at the time, telling the publication that “nothing like that ever happened.”

Berry also mentioned that actor Alan Cumming later wrote about the incident in his memoir.

Now, years later, Berry says she has no regrets. She believes speaking up was important. As she continues promoting Crime 101, she says using her voice — both on screen and in real life — feels more important than ever.

The actress’s powerful story is once again bringing attention to what happens behind the scenes during major film productions.
