Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig Begin Filming Intense Prison Drama in Greece

Last updated

Filming has officially started for a new prison drama film starring Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig, and the project is already creating strong buzz among fans. The movie, which does not yet have an official title, is being directed by Damien Chazelle, known for his powerful storytelling style.

Production began in Greece, with the first scenes being shot in Athens. According to early reports, the filmmakers are using a very unique location. A former tobacco-processing factory basement has been transformed into realistic prison cells for the shoot. This setting is expected to give the film a dark and authentic look.

The story of the film is being kept mostly secret, but some details have been revealed. The plot focuses on a prison warden, played by Daniel Craig, and a rebellious inmate, played by Netflix’s Steve Star Cillian Murphy. Their relationship starts with strict control but slowly turns into a psychological battle inside a harsh prison system. As tension grows, their conflict becomes deeper and more intense.

The film also features Michelle Williams, who plays the warden’s wife, and Mia Threapleton, who plays the inmate’s girlfriend. Their roles are expected to add emotional depth to the story.

Filming will continue in western Athens until May, before moving to other parts of the city. The production team is also planning to shoot scenes on the beautiful island of Corfu before wrapping up the project.

Behind the camera, the film has a strong creative team. Lol Crawley, known for his work on The Brutalist, is handling cinematography. Music for the film will be created by Justin Hurwitz, a longtime collaborator of Damien Chazelle.

A photo from the set was recently shared by Greek media outlet iefimerida, confirming that filming is actively underway and that Michelle Williams is part of the cast.

In an interview with Deadline, Cillian Murphy also spoke about how he carefully chooses his projects, explaining how important it is for a story to truly deserve to be told. His comments show how seriously he takes roles like this one.

As of now, the film’s release date has not been announced, but with such a talented cast and director, expectations are already very high. Fans are excited to see this powerful story come to life on the big screen.

Filming Update: Chazelle’s Prison Drama Wraps in Greece (2026)

Damien Chazelle’s untitled prison drama starring Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig has wrapped principal photography after roughly two months of shooting on Corfu and in Athens, Greece, running from mid-March through early June 2026. The film, also featuring Michelle Williams and Mia Threapleton, is set in the 1940s and follows a prison warden (Craig) locked in a psychological duel with a defiant inmate (Murphy).
