Charlie Heaton, best known for playing Jonathan Byers in Stranger Things, is opening up about one intense filming day from Industry Season 4 that stayed with him long after the cameras stopped rolling. The actor recently spoke about a disturbing party scene that left him feeling emotionally and physically drained.
In Industry, Heaton plays Jim Dycker, a sharp financial journalist who becomes deeply involved in uncovering secrets around the powerful fintech company Tender. Jim’s story takes a dark turn in episode four, titled “1000 Yoots, 1 Marilyn,” which premiered on February 1. The episode ends with Jim’s shocking death, raising questions about whether it was an overdose or something more dangerous.
Speaking in an interview with Vulture, Heaton explained that one party scene involving Jim, Rishi, and a mysterious third man was especially difficult to film. He said the scene was the last one shot during his schedule and took an entire day to complete. By the end, he felt exhausted and uncomfortable. He recalled wanting to go straight home, take a shower, and mentally reset after filming.
The scene was filmed inside a real council block, adding to the raw and tense atmosphere. Heaton shared that the show uses a loose, documentary-style filming method. Actors are allowed to move freely, stand up, and react naturally, instead of sticking to strict camera marks. While this approach makes scenes feel real, it also demands high energy from the cast.
Director Michelle Savill had Heaton and co-star Sagar Radia rehearse the scene in an unusual way. They broke the dialogue into small parts and discussed what the characters were truly thinking beneath the words. This helped bring out the aggression, fear, and confusion seen on screen.
Heaton also revealed that Jim’s death scene was part of his original audition. From the start, he knew the character would not survive past the middle of the season. Still, he was excited to join the show because it was very different from his long-running role on Stranger Things. Unlike the monsters of Hawkins, the dangers in Industry feel more real and human.
The actor said stepping into the fast-moving financial world was challenging but rewarding. He spent time researching financial terms and watching earlier seasons to fully understand Jim’s mindset.
Heaton also discussed his British accent, his approach to complex characters, and why Industry pushed him in new ways. With Industry Season 4 continuing, Jim Dycker’s disturbing final moments remain one of the most talked-about scenes of the season so far.
