Bridgerton Season 5 Update: Netflix Renews the Hit Drama as Filming Plans and Lead Character Clues Emerge

Bridgerton fans have a big reason to celebrate. Netflix has officially renewed the popular Regency drama for Season 5 and Season 6, and fresh details are now coming out about filming, story focus, and possible lead characters.

The romantic series, based on the books by Julia Quinn, continues to follow the Bridgerton siblings as each one finds love in high society London. After the premiere of Bridgerton Season 4 on January 29, 2026, attention has quickly shifted to what’s next. Many viewers are now asking about Bridgerton Season 5, the expected release timeline, and which sibling will lead the story.

At this time, Netflix has not announced an official release date for Season 5. Looking at past seasons, there is usually more than a year between premieres. Season 1 debuted on December 25, 2020, Season 2 arrived on March 25, 2022, and Season 3 was released on May 16, 2024. Based on this pattern, Season 5 is expected to arrive in late 2027 or early 2028, though the streaming platform has not confirmed the exact date.

Filming for the new season has not started yet. Reports suggest production will begin in spring 2026. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Jess Brownell shared that the series follows a two-year production cycle. She explained that filming usually takes around eight months, followed by editing and dubbing in many languages before release.

The biggest question right now is which sibling will lead Season 5. During a conversation with Deadline, Brownell hinted that Eloise Bridgerton and Francesca Bridgerton will headline Seasons 5 and 6. However, she did not reveal which one comes first.

If the story follows Eloise, it may adapt the novel “To Sir Phillip, With Love.” Her storyline includes Sir Phillip Crane, who appeared in earlier seasons. If the focus shifts to Francesca, the plot could draw from “When He Was Wicked.” Her emotional journey began in Season 3 after her marriage to John Stirling and the events that followed.

Cast details have not been officially confirmed. However, Claudia Jessie is expected to return as Eloise, and Hannah Dodd is likely to reprise her role as Francesca. Core cast members such as Ruth Gemmell, Golda Rosheuvel, Adjoa Andoh, and the voice of Julie Andrews may also return, depending on the storyline.

Author Julia Quinn shared in an interview with Us Weekly that she is excited to see Eloise’s story on screen. She also noted that younger siblings are now grown up, opening doors for future seasons.

For now, fans must wait for Netflix to confirm the official lead and premiere date. But one thing is clear — Bridgerton Season 5 discussions have already begun, and the next chapter of love and scandal is on its way.
