It’s official. John Krasinski has pulled the trigger on A Quiet Place Part III, and production is now underway in New York City. The director took to Instagram over the weekend to make the announcement, posting a photo of the film slate in front of the stunning Manhattan Bridge Arch and Colonnade in Chinatown. His caption was short but said everything — “Here. We. Go! #Part III.”
No long speeches, no fancy press releases. Just a man who knows exactly what he’s doing, letting the moment speak for itself.
The Gang Is Back — And Then Some
The biggest news coming out of this announcement isn’t just that the film is happening — it’s who is showing up for it. Emily Blunt is returning as Evelyn Abbott, the role that reminded everyone just how powerful she is as a performer. Whether she’s holding her breath in a flooded basement or going full mama-bear mode on an alien creature, Blunt makes every single scene count. Having her back is not just good news — it’s great news.
Alongside her, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe are reprising their roles as Regan and Marcus, the Abbott children who’ve survived more trauma in two films than most action heroes do in an entire franchise. Watching these characters grow has been one of the most quietly emotional arcs in recent blockbuster history, and Part III promises to take that even further.
Then there’s Cillian Murphy. Fresh off winning the world with Oppenheimer, Murphy is stepping back into the shoes of Emmett — the survivor he introduced in Part II whose arc went from broken loner to something much more hopeful. His dynamic with Blunt in the last film was electric, and reuniting the two of them feels like a genuinely exciting creative decision.
But Krasinski didn’t stop at familiar faces. Jack O’Connell, Jason Clarke, and Katy O’Brian are all joining the A Quiet Place universe for the very first time. Three talented, versatile actors — all in one film. Their roles are being kept under wraps for now, which honestly just adds to the intrigue.
Krasinski Is Fully in the Driver’s Seat
One of the most reassuring things about Part III is that Krasinski is back as writer, director, and producer. This isn’t a studio handing the franchise off to someone new and hoping for the best. The man who built this world from scratch is back to expand it himself, and that level of personal investment almost always shows up on screen.
His character, Lee Abbott — Evelyn’s husband who sacrificed himself for his family at the end of the first film — technically died in 2018, but the franchise has kept him alive through flashbacks. Don’t be surprised if Part III finds another way to bring him back into the story, even briefly. Lee Abbott is too important to this world to ever truly disappear.
Where Does This Fit in the Bigger Universe?
For anyone who needs a quick refresher — the A Quiet Place franchise began in 2018 with Krasinski’s original film, a lean, terrifying thriller about a family trying to survive in a world overrun by creatures that hunt purely by sound. Part II arrived in 2020, expanding the world beyond the Abbott farm and introducing Murphy’s Emmett. Then in 2024, director Michael Sarnoski took things in a fresh direction with A Quiet Place: Day One — a prequel set in New York City starring Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn, showing audiences how the invasion first unfolded.
That film proved one very important thing — this universe works beyond just one family’s story. But now, with Part III, we’re coming back to the heart of it all. Back to the Abbotts. Back to Emmett. Back to the characters and relationships that made people fall in love with this franchise in the first place.
And the fact that it’s once again set in New York City? There’s something uniquely terrifying about imagining that city — loud, chaotic, endlessly alive — forced into complete and total silence. The setting almost writes the tension for you.
A Quiet Place Part III is scheduled to release on July 30, 2027. It’s a long wait. But with this cast, this director, and this world — it’s going to be worth it.
