RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. on Breaking Bad, has died at age 34. The news came out on Monday, October 12, 2026.
A county official told TMZ that the actor died in Texas. TMZ also reported that he died by suicide. Police in Brownsville said the cause and manner of death have not been determined. They said the investigation is ongoing and that no foul play is suspected.
A Cameron County official said Mitte was declared dead on October 12 at what was believed to be his home. An autopsy will be done.
His representative, Sean Reilly, confirmed the news. The statement called Mitte a “beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate.”
Mitte lived with cerebral palsy. His team said he brought authenticity to his role and built a platform for disability awareness and inclusion.
About one week before his death, Mitte spoke on The Joe Vulpis Podcast. He talked about where the story of Breaking Bad could go next. He said Walter White’s journey was over, but the story of the White family was not.
“There’s always more to be told,” he said. “But you gotta tell it right.”
He also hoped the story could continue through a spinoff or on a streaming service like Netflix.
Those words feel very different now. Fans are sharing them online as a sad reminder of how much he still wanted to do.
The drama was created by Vince Gilligan and aired on AMC from 2008 to 2013. It follows a high school chemistry teacher in New Mexico who turns to crime after a cancer diagnosis. If you love the show, you can explore the real Breaking Bad filming locations behind those famous scenes. The series won 16 Emmy Awards, and Mitte appeared in 56 episodes. He also won a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2014 with the cast.
His costars have shared kind words. Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, told The Hollywood Reporter that he was heartbroken. “RJ, I love you my friend,” he said.
Dean Norris, who played Hank Schrader, wrote that Mitte was “a sweetheart of a young man.” He said he always looked out for him as a kid on set.
Mitte’s other work includes The Oak Room, The Recall, Switched at Birth, and The Guardians of Justice. His latest project, Talking to Strangers, came out earlier this year.
Off screen, he was an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He also led The Mitte Foundation.
Mitte was engaged to Kennedy Suarez. He proposed on October 10, 2025.
