Netflix’s latest crime thriller Run Away is getting attention not only for its intense story but also for the real places where it was filmed. The mini-series, based on a bestselling novel by Harlan Coben, was released on January 1, 2026, and is now streaming worldwide.

The show stars James Nesbitt, Minnie Driver, and Alfred Enoch. It follows the story of Simon Greene, a father whose peaceful life breaks apart when his teenage daughter suddenly disappears. When she is later found unconscious, Simon is pulled into a dangerous search filled with secrets, lies, and violence.

To make the story feel real, the makers of Run Away chose to film in real locations across England instead of using studio sets. Filming took place between January 2025 and March 2025, mainly in Greater Manchester and Liverpool, with additional scenes shot in West Yorkshire and the Peak District.

Several key scenes were filmed in Manchester city centre and the Northern Quarter, where Simon is seen walking through busy streets as the mystery grows deeper. The area’s narrow roads and brick buildings help show the tension and fear felt by the characters. Parts of the show were also filmed at the University of Manchester, which was used for serious and investigative scenes.

Another important filming spot was Stockport, including scenes at the Egerton Arms pub, which appears during moments tied to the investigation. Filming officially began on Saddleworth Moor on January 27, 2025. The wide, empty landscape was used for emotional scenes that reflect Simon’s loneliness and confusion.

Liverpool also played a big role in the series. Areas like Falkner Square and the Georgian Quarter were used for important conversations and new leads. Liverpool Hope University appeared in scenes set in office and academic spaces. Outside the cities, Thornbridge Hall in the Peak District National Park was used for isolated and mysterious moments.

The series was produced by Quay Street Productions, and behind-the-scenes photos were shared online after filming wrapped in July 2025.

By using real UK streets, homes, and landscapes, Run Away delivers a powerful and believable story. The filming locations help turn Simon’s search for answers into a gripping and emotional journey that stays with viewers long after the final episode. Run Away was released on January 1, 2026, and is now streaming on Netflix.
