The makers of A24’s Materialists seem to be hurrying to bring the film to the screen. This film was announced in February, and after two months of production, the news of its filming started today.
The cameras started rolling to capture this romantic film on April 29, and today, Dakota Johnson was spotted filming in New York.
A YouTube channel, Backgrid, posted a clip from the filming where Dakota Johnson is seen shooting “Materialists.”
This video is of 1min 8 seconds, in which Dakota is wearing light blue denim jeans with a loose white shirt, carrying a black bag, and a messy hair bun.
In the clip, she is seen shooting in and around a taxi. The actress keeps the luggage in the taxi trunk and then sits in the taxi, and the cameraman captures those scenes from outside.
In the second half of the clip, she again shoots the same scene, keeping the luggage in the trunk and sitting in the taxi.
But it is not clear from that video which street in New York City the shooting took place on. The makers blocked the entire road and set up the whole set for filming by installing traffic stoppers on the road.

Dakota Johnson is also seen filming before
Before today, Madam Web Star was seen filming for Materialists once before. For the first time, Johnson is seen with actor Evans.
Dakota was wearing a dark blue strapless gown with open hair; on the other hand, the Pain Hustlers star was seen wearing a black waistcoat with a white inner and shirt. Both of them were seen talking and smoking outside a restaurant.
Pedro Pascal was also seen during the set in New York City, wearing dark blue jeans with a light gray shirt and a jacket over his shoulder.
Who is Behind “Materialists”?
The film is being helmed by Celine Song, who also made Past Lives in 2023, The Wheel of Time in 2021, and Working in the Theatre in 1976.
It stars Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, Dakota Johnson, and Tom Johnson and is produced by David Hinojosa, Pamela Koffler, and Christine Vachon, with line producer Taylor Shung. The director also wrote the screenplay.
The detailed plot of the film has not been disclosed. However, the story is focused on “a matchmaker whose lucrative business becomes complicated when she finds herself in a toxic love triangle that jeopardizes her clients.”
When to Watch Materialists?
The romantic comedy Materialists began filming in April 2024 and is expected to be released in the US by A24 and internationally by Sony. As of now, no official release date for Materialists has been announced stay connected for the latest updates on the film.
