The gardens of Castello Ruspoli and the San Pellegrino quarter were filmed, covering modern features such as gutters, cables, and windows as 14th-century Florence was transformed to suit the story of the series.

It is a 16th-century palace in the town of Vignanello and has for centuries been the property of the Ruspoli family, an old and noble Italian family.
